The following is what I put to MOTU* recently:
FireWire Audio/MIDI Interface & Control Surface. The FW-1884 is a professional DAW control surface and audio/MIDI interface that uses the FireWire high-speed data transfer protocol. - Since much of the FW-1884’s operation pertains directly to your DAW software, TASCAM has prepared a series of application notes on using the FW-1884 with a number of different DAW programs. These application notes are included on the FW-1884 CD- ROM, and are available online in PDF format on the TASCAM website at www.tascam.com.
- Tascam’s FW-1884 offers eight XLR ins and preamps (each of two phantom-power switches governs a bank of four), and eight 1/4-inch line inputs with accompanying channel inserts for routing to.
- The FW-1884 on Mac OS 9 or X and Windows 2000 or XP. As of this writing, MOTU Digital Performer 2.7 and above, Emagic Logic 6.1 and above and Cakewalk Sonar offer dedicated FW-1884 drivers and can use its native control surface codes. I cannot get DP to see my FW-1884. I have run all the installers from Tascam. The directory library/audio/plug-ins/motu control surface has the 'FW1884.bundle' (version 1.22) in it.
Audio MIDI Set up sees the Tascam.
When I go to the Set UpControl Surface Set upcommand, nothing happens when I click on the 'Add Control Surface' button.
I have tried putting the FW-1884 into all of its modes (Mackie, HUI, Native) but nothing changes.
I have had this gear working before on my old G5, I am now on an Intel I-mac - according to Tascam's forums, the driver is supposed to work on both PPC and Intel machines.
Any ideas?

BTW, I have also just ordered DP 6.0.. maybe the classic 'sir, you need to upgrade to the latest version..' story is what will fix my problem.
